The Winds of Change Are Blowing in the NASCAR 2007 Season!! - SCI February 12th Issue

It's Time for the Daytona 500!

The wait is over, Daytona is here, and this year's Daytona 500 brings with it a whirlwind of change. During the off-season, NASCAR's Nextel Cup Series got a huge overhaul! Starting with the points and championship system all the way down to the cars themselves, fans will be hard-pressed to find something that didn't change.

With many 2007 NASCAR drivers changing teams, old sponsors like GM Goodwrench leaving, and rumors of Jeff Gordon nearing retirement age, there is too much to talk about! Therefore, I want to narrow your focus to what I predict will be the top 5 stories of 2007 in NASCAR.

The Future of Dale Earnhardt Jr & the Impact of Toyota

Headline #1) The future of Dale Earnhardt Jr and DEI. There has been much publicized banter between Dale Jr and Theresa revolving Dale's contract which is set to expire after this season. The latest release is that Dale wants majority ownership of DEI. If Jr doesn't get that, expect him to be driving the #3 GM Good wrench car for Richard Childress Racing next year...just a hunch!

Headline #2) The impact of Toyota. Many NASCAR hard-liners see the entry of a foreign car manufacturer as the culmination of many bad decisions that spell the end of NASCAR. These same hard-liners, however, believed the end of NASCAR came in the early 70's when NASCAR allowed custom-built as opposed to stock chassis. As we all can see, NASCAR is still here and thriving more so now than ever

What Toyota will do is pump enormous amounts of money into R&D to help propel one of its teams to a championship. This will force the US manufacturers, already feeling the strain of lower sales, to either pony up with more cash or simply pull out.

The Success of Open-Wheel Drivers & the Impact of the Car of Tomorrow

Headline #3) The success of open-wheel drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and AJ Allmendinger. For years, we NASCAR fans have always heard that any idiot with an IQ of at least 50 and two left feet could drive and be competitive in NASCAR. Well, this year will not be the first time, but perhaps one of the most publicized times this theory will be tested. With the defection of Juan Pablo Montoya, NASCAR inherited one of Formula-1's top young talents. Let's not forget about 2004 Champ Car World Series Rookie of the Year, AJ Allmendinger who will be piloting the #84 Red Bull Camry. These two drivers are some of the best open-wheel racing has to offer. Watch closely and see how they fair in 2007.

Headline #4) The impact of the Car of Tomorrow. Many negative things have been written about the Car of Tomorrow with little said about the positives the COT is supposed to bring. The main reasons NASCAR developed the COT were to 1) narrow the gap between the have and have nots in NASCAR & 2) encourage more passing at the super speedways. With 16 races slated this season to run with the COT, NASCAR will have ample opportunity to analyze performance before mandating a full season with COT in 2008.

Does Team Red Bull Have a Chance?

Headline #5) Can sponsor owned teams like Red Bull thrive in the modern world of NASCAR. Over the past decade, the number of single car owners has dwindled while the large teams continued to get larger. With competition and costs in NASCAR running at such a high level, teams have found the best way to survive is to field multiple teams and split the overhead of engine development, chassis department, etc... between the teams and their sponsors. How will a team like Red Bull survive? Perhaps they are banking on the COT.

What Influences And Sells You

It has been said that we are a product of the five people that we hang out with the most. Who are these heroes? Taken one step further, this means that we each are a product of those influences that have the greatest and most consistent access to us.

In our current world, those influencers that sell us include people both living and dead, music, TV, movies, internet, books, magazines, school, parents, talk-radio, the news and every other form of media communications. We now live in the new media marketplace where the rules have changed. Regarding the above statement, I believe the word product was chosen carefully instead of the word sum because all of these influencers tend to converge in constantly changing, unlimited permutations. The manner in which we are impacted is far greater than a simple summary of each influencer.

Today, the relevance and potential impact of these influencers is far greater than at any other time in history. The internet is the key. The world is at our doorstep and every segment of it is vying for our attention. A wide body of information, until just recently, was relatively inaccessible. Now, this same information is at our fingertips. The experiences and opinions of other people, even in distant lands, are instantly available. Research material, white papers, statistics, facts and figures and general information relating to even the smallest detail are all available from web sites, blogs, RSS feeds and other media outlets. Audio and video have been transformed as people are now moving from the fixed location of their living rooms to anywhere their mobility affords, enjoying content of all types via the web on a wide range of devices. Today, it is easy to be influenced by virtually limitless sources, all competing for our attention.

Accordingly, our self-talk and subconscious minds are constantly being bombarded by influencers, competing for that steering wheel directing our path. That fact is not necessarily negative. Combined with purposefully-chosen, written goals, these influencers offer a tremendous aid in realizing rapid achievement of our goals, consistently providing course corrections on our chosen direction and destination. In the absence of clear, well-defined and written goals however, these same influencers can combine to create a state of chaos. It may even become dangerous. If we do not choose our path, someone or something else certainly will. We must learn the value of self-determination.

Who are we? What makes us? What drives us? Our values and beliefs shape us at our very core. As a result, we will act in accordance with our internal compass. To do otherwise, to violate our conscience, will certainly cause great stress and distress in our life. These same values and beliefs will help us to focus on those influencers that will direct and guide us on our life journey, while rejecting those influencers that are contrary or hostile to us. We also have the gift of choice which affords us the ability to say no to certain influencers that we know are not congruent with our values. Fortunately, much of this decision -making occurs at a subconscious level, quietly driving us in the direction of our chosen destination and goals.

We can aid this process considerably by proactively deciding upon what we will allow to influence us. We can place ourselves in the path of the influencers that we choose, ignoring those we deem undesirable. Long ago, I made a conscious decision to avoid people with negative attitudes, to fill my head with positive, uplifting and motivating self-talk and to associate with people that are like-minded. That decision, which pushed me in a desirable direction, encouraging and fostering positive growth, has led me to my later choices of friends, work, books, TV, movies, magazines, etc... and has overall impacted me in a positive manner. My choices produce and become my consequences.

Though we cannot avoid the relentless bombardment of our senses, we can dynamically filter and choose those influences which will allow us to reach our maximum potential while rejecting the remainder. It is our choice to determine the five people that we hang out with the most.

How will you spend your time? Who and what is spending it with you? What is happening to you in the process?

Giving Personalized Wedding Gifts

The world of weddings has certainly changed. Gone are the days of traditional weddings where every bride wore a different version of the same dress and receptions were choreographed affairs that lacked personality. Today, weddings are steeped in character distinctive and reflective of the couples that are hosting them. So, it stands to reason that the art of gift giving has changed as well. While many couples still register for wedding gifts and many guests still purchase gifts from that registry, there is, now more than ever, the option of giving a variety of personalized wedding gifts that will transcend the typical offerings.

Personalized wedding gifts are those gifts that are unique to the couple or display an inscription of the couples initials or wedding date. For instance, a beautiful frame that is engraved with the couples wedding date would be considered a personalized gift. Such gift giving used to be inconvenient but today the Internet has opened up a whole new world to us in terms of finding unique and creative gifts that can be easily personalized within a matter of moments.

If you are interested in personalized wedding gifts there are several ways in which you can approach gift giving in this manner. First, you can work from the couples wedding gift registry in order to learn their colors and/or design style. From there, you can choose items that fit within the dcor theme and go on to have them personalized with the couples full name and wedding date or just monogrammed. In fact, monogrammed towels are another one of those great personalized wedding gifts that will last forever. If you have access to any local artists, you could even have a piece of art commissioned that complements the couples colors; the artist could sign the work or even inscribe it to the couple.

If you want to work outside the wedding registry you can choose neutral personalized wedding gifts that do not necessarily have to mesh with the colors of their home. Crystal etched with the couples monogram can be lovely in any home and is available in frames, vases, and even toasting glasses.

Personalized wedding gifts come in many different forms. The important thing is that it is what its name suggests a personal gift; one that when they look at it they will always remember you.

  16. Dont wait for tomorrow.
  17. Invite a special friend and splurge on a good meal.
  18. Run through the sprinklers!
  19. Find a photo booth in a mall and take some fun pictures of yourself.
